How much weight can a dumpster hold?

The weight limit of your dumpster will depend on what size you get and what location it is being delivered to. They range from one ton (2,000 lbs.) to ten tons (20,000 lbs.). Household materials can usually be put into the smaller dumpsters with smaller weight limits, while heavy construction debris is better suited for our larger or specialty containers that can hold such weights. What happens if I overfill the dumpster?

Before we can pick up your dumpster, it is important that you make sure it is NOT overflowing. Nothing can be heaped up in the dumpster or sticking over the sides. When the driver comes to pick up your dumpster, he or she will roll a tarp over the top and secure it to the sides of the dumpster. The tarp will not fit if there are items sticking out of the open top. Without this tarp over the top, debris inside your dumpster could fly out over the road and cause extremely dangerous situations. If the driver is unable to secure the tarp over the top, we will leave the dumpster on site and will have to return at a later date to try again. This would result in an additional fee for the attempted delivery that the dumpster company charges. When you're choosing your dumpster size, keep in mind the size of the materials you are putting in. Make sure nothing is too tall that it would lay taller than the sides. If you're stuck between sizes, it would be better to size up rather than size down.
