Dumpster Rental Watervliet, NY
Dispose of Your Trash Cheaply!
Watervliet, NY may be a mouthful to pronounce, but that doesn't diminish its long and storied history. Originally founded by Dutch settlers, including the famous Rensselaer family, the city has become known as the “mother of towns†thanks to the number of other cities in the Albany area that originate from its original boundaries. The current city of Watervliet is continuously expanding its economy, making it a great place for a trash disposal business, such as ourselves, to set up shop!

What Happens to Trash Once it's in a Landfill?
We all know that most of our trash ends up in landfills. Even in a time where everyone is pushing for greener waste management practices and energy sources, we still rely on the age-old method of landfills for getting rid of our trash. We even use some landfills with our dumpsters in Watervliet. So if most of our trash is destined to be landfilled, what happens once its let there?
When trash is disposed of in a landfill it is compacted using purpose-built bulldozers that can maneuver over layers of trash. Once the garbage is compacted down, it is covered with several feet of soil. This is done on a daily basis once the site has reached its capacity for the day. Once that trash is covered up, not a whole lot happens to it. Organic waste will slowly start to decompose as bacteria and other microorganisms start digging in, but everything else remains practically inert for a long time. This is mostly due to the fact that there is very little oxygen or water once the trash has been compacted, making it a less than ideal environment for microbes to really thrive.
However, landfills are not entirely inactive. There is still plenty of decomposition going on which results in methane gas being generated. There's enough of this gas being made on a daily basis that several landfills across the country utilize it as an energy source. Some sites are so rife with methane that they can even sell the resulting energy to electric utility companies. They provide a relatively clean energy source for homes and businesses in their immediate area.
Even though a large portion of waste goes to landfills, it can still be used for practical purposes. So the next time you use a trash disposal service like us, don't despair over where the trash ends up. We still make sure to utilize recycling facilities when they are available to us in order to keep as green as possible.
