How Does Plastic Recycling Turn Trash into Goods?
That's the kind of question that we don't hear a lot from people. Most are content to just put their plastics in the plastic bin, their paper waste in the paper receptacle, and their glass bottles in the glass bin and that's that. All most people know is that when they separate their recyclables from their trash it will eventually makes its way back into other goods they use. So how does a plastic bottle end up being used to make a plastic bag?
Every material that can be recycled has its own process in order to turn it into something useful. Plastic is one of the most recycled materials due to its numerous applications. However, plastic recycling can be complicated because there are several different kinds of plastic that are not all recyclable. This results in most plastic waste being used to create more of the same product. For instance, plastic water bottles are all made from the same plastic and so once they are processed they are remolded back into bottles for use by bottled water companies.
The process of turning plastic back into plastic products involves melting the plastic into a resin-like substance. This resin can then be cooled down and chopped into pieces so that transportation is easier. The resulting “pellets†are shipped off to manufacturers who will reheat the pellets so that they can be fed through an extruder which places in the resin into a machine that will shape it to whatever kind of product they manufacture.
